- The new update categorizes text messages from unknown numbers into twelve new subcategories.
- This update extends the “Report Spam” feature to report spam SMS/MMS.
iOS16 beta 2 brings “event extraction from SMS” to messages for Indian users.
The new update allows filter extension developers to categorize non-personal messages into 12 subcategories under “Transactions” and “Promotions.”
The Transactions category includes finance, reminders, orders, health, utilities, weather, carrier, rewards and others and the Promotions category includes deals, coupons and others, reports TechCrunch.
At its flagship annual developer conference WWDC22, Apple explained how developers can integrate these categories into their SMS filters.
In the US, users will be able to report spam to operators through a new “Report Junk” in iOS16.
The feature will only be available with certain carriers.

Even if you are using the iPhone in dual SIM mode, you will also be able to filter messages based on their SIM card, the report says.
iOS 16 also introduced support for bypassing CAPTCHAs in supported apps and websites for users which can be found in the Settings app.
When enabled, iCloud automatically and privately verifies your device and Apple ID account in the background, eliminating the need for apps and websites to present you with a CAPTCHA verification prompt.
This new system will provide a better user experience for tasks such as logging in or creating an account, with improved privacy and accessibility compared to CAPTCHA.
