Dyersville, Iowa – The chief operating officer of the group that now owns the Field of Dreams movie site says the plans they announced for development won’t take away from past and future memories.
Thursday’s announcement of an $80 million investment by “Go the Distance Baseball” drew a lot of commentary. COO Dan Evans says they plan to build nine new ball diamonds, team dormitories, a hotel and other incremental improvements.
He says they waited to make the announcement until they had all the answers on design, engineering studies, interpretations with architects and funding questions.
The site returned to the national spotlight after Major League Baseball staged a game at a field built near the site. Evans says the landscape allows them to build there without affecting the image fans already know.
Evans says they eventually want the field to become the home of high school state championship games.
Evans says that fits with what they want to accomplish.
He says all the fields will be surrounded by corn to bring them the feel of the original field.
He says nine baseball and softball diamonds on the north end of the property will be ready for play in the summer of 2023.
