Lake Country council to deal with planning backlog after developer complaints
The Planning Division has 149 active applications as of July 1 this year
A backlog of planning applications is forcing Lake Country District staff to seek advice from council.
A report presented to council on July 19 says the backlog has grown since 2016 and the planning division has 149 active applications as of July 1 this year.
Disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing staff changes have reduced claims processing capacity.
Staff indicated that while some steps have been taken to clear the backlog, more steps are needed to create long-term solutions.
Some of the staff’s recommendations include prioritizing active development applications and improving development application application times. The board can also choose to do nothing.
