While the content portfolio on Sony Liv is among the best in India, the same cannot be said for its apps. According to several user reports on social media (and my own experience), Sony Liv automatically disconnected its subscribers in the middle of the 2nd ODI between England and India at Lord’s. Attempting to connect via OTP didn’t do much either. Meanwhile, deleting and reinstalling the app wouldn’t help. Majority of the users started seeing the ESOCKETTIMEDOUT error after entering the received four digit OTP on their phone.

The issue appears to affect mobile, web, and TV users alike, driving subscribers anger and frustration. During this time, when trying to log in through the mobile app, an error page appears (shown below). The app seems to think I’m in the US, and I had to confirm that my VPN connection was disabled to make sure. All in all, it’s not a good look on Sony, especially given the timing.

The Sony Liv team is likely in damage control mode internally, but the service hasn’t commented on this latest outage. However, Sony Liv’s Twitter page is notifying some users that the service is back up and running. “Hello, sorry for the inconvenience. This issue has been resolved now. If the problem persists, write to us and we will have it checked internally,” the company said.
We’ve reached out to Sony Liv for comment on the connection issues, but haven’t heard back yet. No one can guess what caused this temporary problem.
Twitter was also hit by outages
Thousands of users were unable to access Twitter earlier today due to a global outage. Downdetector.com found around 50,000 complaints/reports on this particular issue. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for the service to be up and running again.
