Events DC Meets High Health, Safety and Wellness Standards for the Convention Center, Entertainment & Sports Arena and DC Armory
WASHINGTON, May 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, today announced that it has achieved WELL Health Safety Ratings for its three primary venues, including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the Entertainment & Sports Arena and the DC Armory through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The WELL Health Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating for all types of new and existing buildings and spaces, focusing on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and contingency plans to deal with a post-COVID-19 environment now and in the future.
Designed to enable owners and operators of large and small businesses to take the necessary steps to prioritize the health and safety of their staff, visitors and stakeholders, the WELL Health Safety Rating can help users prepare their spaces for reintegration in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, instilling confidence in those who pass through the building as well as the wider community.

To achieve the WELL health safety rating, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Entertainment & Sports Arena, and DC Armory implemented features such as enhanced cleaning and sanitizing procedures, emergency preparedness programs to include a healthy re-entry plan and a full range of institute-reviewed health services resources. The award-winning venues, which are owned and operated by Events DC, scored 15 points in the evaluation of its deployed health and safety protocols, signaling another milestone as a proven industry leader and disruptor in creating… clean and sanitized meeting spaces.
The WELL Health-Safety Rating provides a centralized source and governing body to validate the efforts of owners and operators. It draws on information from the IWBI’s task force on COVID-19, in addition to guidance on the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). ), the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Emergency Management Agencies, as well as recognized standards associations such as ASTM International and ASHRAE, and academic institutions and research, as well as the fundamental principles already established by the IWBI’s WELL Building Standard, the frame of reference for advancing health in buildings and spaces of all kinds.
